With the exception of listed buildings, partial demolition does not require planning permission either, so you can remove unsightly structures or features, freely. Many smaller extensions can be added under permitted development rights (PDRs), without applying for planning permission, especially those at the back and sides of a property. ![]() Subject to planning permission, it may also be possible to add a second storey to a bungalow, transforming it into a house, or to replace a flat roof. This can be achieved by extending a house upwards or outwards to create a more pleasing balance (and space), greater symmetry, or to replace poorly designed extensions added by previous owners. And make sure your COM port no.'s are low and the drivers are installed. For a significant renovation, it's often worth changing the overall proportions of a building. So, I guess the moral of the story is that even if you have unplugged all your USB devices, there might still be interferences from software that might use the USB serial ports. I have no idea why it was at COM8, it could have been the AC Nielson transmission software, but talanhart thought this might have been the problem and that it should be between COM 1 and COM4. You can do this by double clicking on USB Serial Port, Port Settings, Advanced, Com Port No. Then I opened my Device Manager with my Cricut on, went to Ports, USB Serial Ports, and changed the name from COM8 to COM2. It's rather primitive buggy software, and I uninstalled it. Not sure if this is just Canadian or not. So, if anyone of you have an AC Nielson scanner at home, keep this in mind. My husband scans all of our purchases and sends the data to a marketing company once a week through a USB port. I changed two things today to get SCAL to work, so it could be either one or both. What my particular problem was, why it was fairly unique to me and why it occurred on both of my computers (Vista and XP) is that the USB serial port was being interfered with by some rather unusual software I've got. One of the forum members, talanhart, was able to help me figure out what the problem was, and now SCAL is working beautifully!!! I am just thrilled!!!! Thanks talanhart!!! You're the best!!!:D I never did hear back from tech support after a couple of emails, but no matter. The next day, with exactly the same configuration of everything, the computer won't recognize the Cricut.ĭoes anyone know if there is some kind of feedback possible between the Cricut and USB port that would 'poison' the port and stop it from working? It's just too weird that it commits suicide right after it has been working perfectly. I get excited, but then discover it was only a one shot deal. This has allowed me to update the firmware a couple of times and do some test cuts using SCAL. The very weird thing about my problem is that I HAVE had everything working from a couple of different USB ports. ![]() The computer still can't recognize the Cricut, even though I have done everything possible within my knowledge, and tried talanhart's suggestion about uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for the USB serial port and USB serial controller. How long does it usually take to hear back? I still haven't heard from Tech Support except for the initial email about plugging it into the computer ports themselves and updating the firmware, and it's been four or five days. Help? I'm out of ideas and am so very disappointed that I can't use SCAL. Uninstalled and reinstalled Design Studio Rebooting in all different ways - with Cricut powered on, Cricut powered off, plugged in, etc.ĭifferent computer running on WIndows XP (my computer has Vista 32 bit) and all of the above scenarios Here's what I've tried so far:ĭifferent USB cables just in case the cable was defectiveĭifferent USB ports, but all on the computer itself When I tried it again, the computer would not acknowledge the Cricut. And then I turned the computer off and didn't scrapbook for a few days. Everything worked beautifully and I was so excited. Earlier this week, I downloaded DS, upgraded the firmware on the Cricut from 1.0 to 3.2, downloaded the SCAL demo and purchased the software. My computer will NOT recognize that my Cricut is plugged into the USB port and turned on, so I am unable to use SCAL, or even the trial Design Studio to try to update the firmware again. I'm hoping someone will have some suggestions, I have been waiting a couple of days to hear from tech support. Hi there everybody, I am brand new and I am at my wit's end. ![]()
